Time to get this over with.

no, just kidding. Nothing bad to report today. (besides being extremely sore and my husband is back from Cedar Rapids, and the two having nothing to do with each other...and wait husband home is a good thing?)

I have awards! I thought there were 3 but I can't seem to locate the 3rd one. If it was you, could you please remind me? Thank you.

First one is from my mother. I think she is biased on giving this one out, but. . .
And Cheap Like me, handed out the “Arte y Pico” award.

The “Arte y Pico” award was created to be given to bloggers who inspire others
with their creative energy and their talents, whether it be writing or artwork
in all medias. When you receive this award it is considered a “special honor”.
Those who receive it are then supposed to choose at least 5 other blogs to honor
with the award.

I think it is for my 40,000 word written in two weeks horror novel at the bottom of this blog. oops this is where I would wink.

Well then, shall we hand this puppies out?

For the awesome blog award, I would like to give it to;

Children in the corn

Scarecrow's Garden

A posse ad esse

Our Great Adventure

The Sustainable Backyard

Now for the art one, this might be a little difficult as traditional art isn't something that a lot of the blogs I read do. But we do have a lot of lost art, and for those my picks are as follows for the Aret Y Pico award:

Cook Think Blog

Country Roads

K2P2

Greenwoman

From a Texas Perspective

I am not telling you why I have chosen these blogs, you're just going to have to click through. oh, here is where I grin mischievously.

What will you refuse to give up to save Mother Earth?

Howling HIll got me in a corner. She wants to know how ticked off I can get people... umm I mean she wants me to fess up to what I will NOT give up to comply with green standards.

Books, there is no way I will give up my books. I know that reading them on the pc is so much more enviro friendly, but my desk top doesn't fit snugly on my char with me, and look at a screen for too long will set off a migraine. I can however read a book all day and late into the night without an issue.

My Truck. Unless someone is willing to give me a few work horses and a wagon, I need my truck to transport animals and feed as well as equipment. I don't like the price I have to pay for gas, but a truck out here is a necessary evil.

Red Meat. Sorry my vegan friends, but I will continue to eat meat. I was vegan for a very long time, and not only did my body say no more, but I stopped enjoying eating nothing but veggies. Still eat lots and lots of veggies, but a good local raised bloody steak is just the bees knees.

My motorcycle. It's old, (1949) leeks, doesn't comply with EPA standards, but she is mine and I love her for all her flaws. I am not very materialistic, but there is something about motorcycles that is hard not to love. She can get me where I need to go (as long as the speed limit isn't over 55mph) she can haul all the kids and groceries, well she will when she is no longer a basketcase.

and finally the last thing that I refuse to give up is. . . my gas/propane stove. Can't can on electric.

goody goody, it is confession time for;

The Back Forty

Muddy Clogs

Two Frog Home

Unusually Unusual Farm Chick

Good Times

Do you remember the game Oregon Trail? If you do you are dating yourself. There is a cute meme going around about who would you take in your covered wagon on the Oregon Trail. (the link will take you to a website that has a free trial version of Orgeon Trail)

Who to choose, who to choose? Just about everyone has some talent that would be useful on the trail. So to make it somewhat fair in my choosing, I am going to pick only those that are appearing on my sidebar as recently updating their blogs.

Cook Think Blog, because they can cook just about anything. And that means I won't have to.

Fast grow the weeds, because if anyone can come up with a mobile greenhouse, and know how to use it, it would be her.

A Posse ad esse, he is the repurposing king! He could figure out a use for all of our trash, anything that was broken that could be repaired for it's original purpose, and anything we found along the way.

Banter, Bones and Breath, because she could figure out how to use the canary in the well, and then tell use the air quality just by how the bird acts (not just if it is alive or dead)

Super Natural Christian, only because she is my mother and if I don't include her I will get a phone call "Why don't you want your mother along?" ~grin~ love ya mom. My mother has many skills that would go along with the trail, one would be catching bees so that we could travel with honey.

So, what 5 are you taking?

an Excellent meme

This award was given to me by TexasmomKJ.

DeconstructingVenus has tagged me. No worries, it is not a RFID chip.

7 Things

1. My favorite song is not of the metal genre. Candy Colored Clown by Roy Orbison. (But to justify it, I fell in love with it when I saw the Blue Velvet)

2. FogHorn LegHorn is my nemesis, and if I would eat him my life would be slightly less enjoyable.

3. I am 5 foot 9 inches tall

4. Since I have done this meme several times, I am having problems picking out new facts for you.

5. I watch cartoons, even when my boys are gone.

6. I had my first rememberable kiss in Kindergarten, and then wouldn't allow a by to touch me again until Junior High.

7. I wear glasses, not because of poor eyesight. I have better than 20/20 vision, but my eyes argue over light when I try to see in the distance.

I would tag 7 people, but I have learned that the people I choose tend to inform me that they have already done this and will not be doing it again. I think this is my 5th time.

I had thought abbagirl74 tagged me, but I can't find it.

Have a great weekend! Tonight, we sleep with the dinosaurs.

tag teamed

I have been tagged by both Queen Wackamole and abbagirl74. As many times as I have been tagged with this one meme, I might have a hard time finding yet another 8 random facts about myself.

1. I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.
2. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog

1. I smoke ~I'm a smoker, I'm joker, I'm a midnight . . .~

2. I enjoy anime, maybe a little too much

3. I have RLS , dignosed at age 9.

4. I don't wear make-up

5. I wear a leather cowboy hat

6. I have a soft spot for men with very long hair ~as long as it has been taken care of~

7. I have been to the midnight showing of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" 10 times ~abbagirl, ya ready?~

8. I have chased a calf around a mud pit, attempting to catch the ribbon attached to it's tail to win a prize at CowTown. I was 7.

as for tagging. . . you're it!

I will go back to homesteading in the morning.

Tagged!

I have been catching up on blog posts, and it looks like I was tagged back on May 4th, by abbagirl74

Here is a list of favorites.

5 everyday favorites:
Coffee
reading your replies
writing
baking
snuggeling with kids

4 mood-lifters:
hearing thank you
reading your replies {you people crack me up}
coffee {can you tell it's morning}
kissing my husband

3 reasons to get out of bed:
children
animals
garden

2 people you love:
{only 2?}
My parents

1 thing you love about yourself:
I have no real answer for this one. I don't ever think about it. I readily see my flaws, things that I need improvement, but loving something about myself {and not make it sound conceeded?} I just don't know. I am Phelan, plain and very tall.

This is what happens when you read other's blogs

I have been tagged by the Greenwoman. Although I have already done this meme, my husband informs me that there are more than just 6 things about me that are considered weird. I'm Normal!

As a Child I use to crawl under my bed to read. If I could, I would still do that now, stupid growth spurts.

I've wrestled a woman in coleslaw.

I scream selected songs from contemporary musicals while speeding down the road on the back on the motorcycle. And everyone always wants to know why my husband is smiling and shaking his head when we pull in somewhere.

I can't resist a horror flick. You should see my video and DVD collection, no matter how bad it is, I have to watch it.

I will read any book that is put into my hands. It really doesn't matter how boring or poorly written it is.

I will put blueberries in just about everything I eat, from a pasta to a salad to desserts.

Since I already tagged people back when I did this the first time, I will skip it this time. But if you feel the need to post this meme, let me know about it so I don't feel so alone and exposed.

I have also done a little side bar cleaning this weekend. Hopefully I didn't mess anyone's feeds up this time. Speaking of feeds, you can now read my blog through feedblitz, the sign up is located in the sidebar. oopps, sorry LJers!

I've been tagged

THE RULES: Each player of this game starts with the ‘6 weird things about you.’ People who get tagged need to write a blog post of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says ‘you are tagged’ in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

Thank you Rebecca!

1. I love Brussel sprouts { I know that's not too weird with this group}

2. I eat fire

3. I have 2 chickens in a fish tank in my living room

4. I collect ugly vases

5. I twist my hair like a child

6. I have only been on one "traditional" date.

Now for the dreaded tagging;

Favorite books

I've been meaning to do this one. From Simple Katie's blog

I've been discussing books with different people lately and wanted to post a list of some of my favorite books. This is by no means, complete or in any kind of order:

I have more, but I went through my bookshelf and just picked them out as I went through them. You can see most of the books I have, no longer have, will read, or not, here.

My reason for posting this list is rather selfish. I'd like to start a meme of sorts, mainly because I'm always looking for new reading material. So if you are so inclined, post 15 of your favorite books on your blog and comment so I know to come check out your list, though I already read the regular commenters here on a regular basis... Another long weekend

We did a little repair work, here and there. Then headed out to the in-laws.

What we see along the way.
A major television station, tiny and in the middle of a field

A very large church, in a very small town.

Political Correctness has yet to penetrate the deep dark rural areas of Kansas.

Meme,
I have been asked to tell of five untold truths about me by Abbagirl74 over on Wheel. I have been meaning to do this {she tagged me awhile back}

I wonder what exactly it means by untold truths. I gather it means things that I have not said here, and not correcting falsehoods or coming to grips with my personal truths that I have denied myself. I don't think meme's are that deep. Let's see what 5 things I can tell you about myself.

1. I am a perfectionist that is terrified of failure so do things half ass.
2. I keep my Christmas lights up all year {the clear icicle kind, they are great porch lights}
3. I am not a Christian, but my oldest son is.
4. I have a darker past then I like to admit.
5. I seem to always have a book in hand {I have even taken them out into the barn, to read during breaks in my chores}

Now for the tagging, {I was informed to tag 5 people}

Stephanie from Adventures in the 100 acre wood

Katie from Simple Katie

Ellie from The Cedar Chest

Tammi from the Unusually Unusual FarmChick

Lynn from The New Homemaker.

My first tagging on blogger

I have been tagged by Julie over on Flip this Body. Hey, It's my first time.

A book meme;

1. One book that changed your life - hardest question first.

The Fall by Albert Camus

I was 10 years old when I first read this book. It introduced me to existentialism, yep that was something I needed in my life at that age.

2. One book that you've read more than once.
The Catcher in the Rye

First time was because I wanted to know why it was banned from my middle school library, the second time was for freshman English

3. One book that you'd want on a desert island.

Tom Brown's Field Guide to Wilderness Survival

Why you think?

4. One book that made you laugh.

There’s a Wocket in my Pocket ~how can you not laugh at that~.

5. One book that made you cry.

Cry? Um... none. Upset? Lovely Bones

6. One book that you wish you had written.

As I am a struggling novelist with my own lofty ideals, I would have to say none, because I could not have written them in the same manner as they were already.

7. One book you wish had never been written.

I don’t think there is one that I could honestly say I wish was never written, But there are I few that I wish I had never read.

8. One book that you are reading at the moment.

Mile of Post and Wire

9. One book that you've been meaning to read.

All of them I haven’t got to yet.

10. Tag five others that you’d like to do this meme..

Normally I don't tag people, but as that would spoil the fun. . .
