A plan to butcher. Party?

We saw 1 inch of rain over the weekend. I must say, that was pleasant.

The lockers are full. No appointment for full service is available. And if there were, we are looking at a $2000 bill. So we are thinking about doing it ourselves. One of the problems however is the amount of time it takes and only 2 of us doing it. We are thinking about asking some people that want to learn how, over.

Teaching doesn't slow the process down by much, and the extra hands would be helpful. But whatever we chose to do, it will need to happen sooner rather than later.

are you butchering cows? Have you done so before? the biggest thing I have ever helped with was deer, and it is alot of work, but well worth the effort. I am so happy that you all seem to be recovering some.

I would love to come and help out, but there is just no way I could get there. :o(

You should do like a butchering workshop and charge money to have people help you. I see that happening more and more around the net.

when are you planning on doing it?

Lisa, not from complete start to finish. But I have butchered many larger animals.

Yart, be great for you to come out. I can't do a workshop until I have a more proper shed for it. It's something we have talked about.

Transfarmer, mid to late November. We will wait until the day time high are in the low 40's.

Wow - I would love to learn this skill. I live too far away and can't take any more time off from work for travel. Getting folks to help in a learning capacity is a great idea though - all parties benefit.

maybe I can get my wife to come out with me if it isn't close to thanksgiving. I've got a birthday coming up on the 8th, and she keeps asking what I want. Maybe I can finagle a trip to learn butchering.

Your package is on the way. I had fragile marked on the side and the post office worker asked if there was anything fragile in it. I gave her a blank stare and pointed at the word fragile, which she promptly covered with priority mail tape.

hahahaha!!! My post lady will be thrilled with a bloody package.

Hopefully it makes it without breaking. Other people's kids.

I will let you know when we start getting cold enough here to butcher. I kind of hope that this current weather holds out as I have 1 ripe tomato now and would like more. But I do need to butcher so the rest can survive the winter.

I do have a nice large camper that should stay warm.
