Tired

I am sleepy. Don't wanna get up today.

We are at full speed here, harvesting and preserving our garden. I am so looking forward to winter and much needed rest.

How's every body's gardens doing?

Good morning to you, Phelan! I guess that's why God made a winter...so that we would be forced to slow down a tad!

You have a good day. my friend!

Canning frenzy. Dehydrating everything in sight except me and the kiddo. Planted fall garden and just set up mini green house.

Exhausted too. We're in full food preservation mode. After giving up on the air ever drying out (it's been at or above 75% for weeks here) I finally bought a dehydrator. Canner runs whenever "everything else" and actually having everything to hand coincide. I am SO So SO very happy to have an extra fridge to hold food until I can deal with it!

With the weather here being so cool, I know I have been so tired also. But the garden is still producing tomatoes and peppers. So I am canning like crazy. Even put up 2 quarts of tomato juice late last night just to get it done... LOL!

Garden is still going, some things are finished (corn, beans) and others are beginning to come in (grapes, brussel sprouts, cucumbers, pie pumpkins) and others are just beginning (winter squash, cinderella pumpkins).
*whew* still in a canning frenzy.

One of the disadvantages of living in southern California. No down time in the garden. For my own mental health I dig most of the mulch into the soil in the Fall and force myself to take it easy for a couple months. Vacations are good for the flesh and the soil.

Blight is spreading rapidly on my tomatoes; I may can a few more, although I had originally decided not to. I'm getting ready to make green tomato chow-chow tomorrow.

My garden is weedy, but still producing peppers and eggplants and of course, butternut squash.

Our story is a repeat of most of the previous comments. As always I'm feeling like I'm being pulled in 10 different directions and you know what I stretch pretty good, just praying there are no stretch marks when this season is over*wink* Even thought it is overwhelming right now, I just keep reminding myself that we;ll be so gald to have it all and the memories will have faded as to the overwelming feeling.

Canned basil dilly beans, herbed beans( pressure canned), sweet pickled carrots, harvested some herbs for drying, saved corn silk for drying when we processed corn last week, picked raspberries, weeded a bit, while moving irrigation water, Oh yeah we managed to get three loads of laundry washed and on the line, barns cleaned, regular chores done and supper fixed! Whew no wonder I'm pooped!
I'm trying to loose some weight and so is Mike, so we decided we'll walk three times a week, tonight was the first night and I admit after the 1 mile walk my legs feel like rubberbands, LOL!

Garden is almost at the harvest stage. Getting the cold storage ready for input. Early spuds. Still keeping the sweet potatoes under wraps.

Careful what you ask for. Winter here is about six months long..

This year I planted several big corrals of sunflowers, each patch about eight feet by eight feet. As the rest of my garden turns raggedy, the sunflowers remain in their glory, beset by flocks of gold finches.

The rest of the garden keeps churning out produce, but I'm almost too tired to collect it.

Can't believe I'm saying it, but I'm ready to put my Zone 5a garden to bed and feel the cool air of fall.

Our garden looks to be finishing up now...just getting a few more tomatoes. We're canning up a storm as well. I wish ours would hang on a little longer, the season is so short here!

My small garden was destroyed in that hail storm a month or so ago. I planted some things too late. I am just now starting to see some baby eggplant, but I fear they will be immature for harvesting. How long can I keep the plants growing?

abba, keep an eye on the local weather. If there is a threat of frost, cover them with a sheet and keep the frost off of them. If they call for a hard frost, harvest everything quickly.
