Discussions

We have laid out a plan. It is rather basic, but should help with any money woes we might face. We have decided to sell our tomatoes at the farm market, start getting my chainmaille out in the public eye a bit more, and we have begun looking into starting our own motorcycle shop. (The process for that will be recorded on Following the Yellow Brick Road)

It won't bring in a ton of money (though last night I was flipping through channels and saw a chainmaille necklace on a shopping channel that was being sold for $200) But it is a start to something, that will hopefully keep my husband out of the politics of being the employee. I didn't realize how much stress had been placed on him lately, doing something that he is good at and loved. I did notice that he was starting to look older, but I chalked that up to being together since we were teenagers. But this past week, that added age has disappeared. I really do think that this lay off is a blessing. I know worse is coming, it always seems to, but we have been through much worse then this and survived. And all your comments helped immensely.

It shall be an interesting year.

That sounds like an excellent plan. You know there have been a few of us who have been saying that your chainmaille would do well if you sold it.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you guys.

If you need help/advice on starting a business, feel free to ask me. I also know an excellent small business accountant (my dad) who will answer questions for my friend as a favor to me.

Congrats and good luck on your new adventure!

I am so glad you guys see this as a blessing. I think it really is. It will be hard, naturally, but I know you guys have it in you.
*hugs and kicks*

Oh, wow...Phelan, that sounds like a great solution. We were in business for a time for ourselves and just being the masters of our own schedules made such a huge difference. Can't wait to see the good things that come of this for you guys! :)

Okay, so I have been talking up the motorcycle business to like everyone I know. I already have a co-worker who needs a tune up on his Harley. As soon as you can give me the info, I will pass it on.

I will buy your tomatoes at the Farmer's Market every week if I can, along with anything else you are selling. I love homegrown vegetables and something tells me this year will not be a good year for me to try and garden. No time...

Call me anytime and we can get together maybe next week if you are available.

I really don't have a comment, but I wanted to let you know that your post has got me smiling.

It does indeed sound like a good plan. If you need any more seed let me know (I have a lot of extra).

Scary as it sounds, I often wish my job would just let me go so I could be "forced" to go after my own life.

I wish you all the best of everything!!

I'm not familiar with your chainmaille, so ignore me if you already do this or if it isn't relevant. Have you ever sold your stuff at Celtic festivals or renaissance fairs? A friend of mine is a metalsmith and makes jewelry with a medieval, Celtic sort of aesthetic, and he's had a lot of success selling at those kinds of events.

Either way, it's very cool that you guys are coming up with some creative plans. Good luck!

I think you have a great plan! I know this kind of thing is scary, but seeing your willingness to give it a go is inspiring!
