Kitchen Confidential

A few weeks back, I was asked to review a DVD set call Kitchen Confidential. It is a situation comedy based on the memoirs of Chef Anthony Bourdain. It only ran 4 episodes before being pulled from the air.

The DVD set I was sent had a total of 12 episodes.

Jack Bourdain enjoys a celebrity lifestyle before hitting bottom. He eventually gets a job running an upscale restaurant in New York City, and is determined to prove he is no longer wild.

This series comes from the same people that did Sex in the City. I am not a big fan of that program, never really watched. But Kitchen Confidential is actually pretty good. It had me giggling through most of it. The actors are engaging in their roles, all except the female love interest that was thrown in.

I agreed to watch and review this DVD because it sounded like something my father would enjoy. Unfortunately he his now in Hospice, sharing a room and TV with another man. Hopefully I can bring it up to him soon to watch, this is the kind of dry witty humor he enjoys. And I was surprised that I liked it as much as I did.

I am also surprised that it was only aired for 4 episodes, and I would personally enjoy it as a more long run program. As a comedy it is both witty and crude, a wonderful mixture.

I know of Anthony Bourdain. He did a very entertaining and unusual program about cooking in various parts of the world. Both my sons are chefs and through them I read Anthony's memoirs - Kitchen Confidential. It doens't surprise me it's now been turned into something else. I'll have to tell my sons about the DVDs, they both admire Anthony very much. He's one of your great chef's.

I never saw this series, but will look for it in case I ever come across it.

My husband and I enjoy "Chef!" which I think you might like for some of the same reasons, though it's british's in a different category than most british humor, though, which for some reason we have some we love and some we hate and few that fall anywhere in between.

"Chef!" ran for something like 4 seasons, and I think we watch the entire 4 at least once every two or three months or so. The writing is biting and really funny :)

It looks interesting ~ is it available to others, or only you as the reviewer?

I haven't read the book that this is based on, so don't know how accurate it is.

Robbyn, I haven't seen chef!. Might have to look into it. my father and I are big on British humor. One good thing about having PBS around.

Killi, it is available. Sorry...if you click on the picture it will take you to the Fox store.
