Too. . .hot. . .to. . .even. . .breath . . .

I wish to remind the weatherman that we live in Kansas. 111F is not acceptable.

"Next Monday it will be 99F. But between you, me and the fence post, I am trying to be optimistic, it will actually be in the triple digits"  quote the weatherman. He now admits to lying, but we love him for that.

I can manage about 2 hours each morning in the garden before it gets to be too much. The animals get watered and hosed off 4x a day. The grass is dead, my garden is struggling, it's just a mess. It's even too hot for the boys to play in the mud pool! Though I have been tempted while out in the garden.

The boys and I do our morning chores then hang out watching anime. Sometimes the humidity is so high that even with the air conditioner running, you still sweat in the house. And stepping outside is like getting smacked in the face with a wet cat.

I worry about the garden, it is just baking out there in the sun. I have lost most of my purple string beans from it. Even the corn has withered a bit. It's hotter than two tit mice in a wool glove at high noon in August.

They claim rain is coming tonight and tomorrow. But if it is anything like we had the other day, you watch the rain drop hit the pavement and within seconds it evaporates. Here's hoping for a frog strangler.

Believe me, I can feel your pain! I gave up on my garden and I can only hope that those cracks in my driveway don't eat my truck!

Maybe we will all get a break soon! Hope so!

I don't know how you can stand that humidity. One of the reasons, there were many, I left Florida. Hope you get your frog strangler soon.

Our temps are like yours, but so far we have had regular rains. Cliff's brother, near Independence, Ks., says their grass is dying it's so dry.

are you trying to cover parts of your garden with a sheet perhaps? It may help it some, and if you have anything to mulch the rows with it may help too.
good luck, I just found your site, and am enjoying it!

Now twelve days in a row at or over 100 and forecast to be the same for the next eight or nine days. Gee remember that long pipe busting cold snap last February? Now those were the good (c)old days.

I can sympathize. This is our 12th day over 100ยบ, something like 21 this summer with no end in sight. June normally gives us over 4" of rain...we got .29" in June and none so far in July. May wasn't much better. Shrubs that have been around this house for decades are dying and watering doesn't help. It's just too hot. Johnnie had an episode of heat exhaustion a couple of weeks ago and missed an entire week of work. I kept trying to tell him that people of "a certain age" can't fool around with this kind of heat. I am so thankful that we aren't trying to deal with hay and livestock this year.

Arkansas is baking too! I am still trying to put in garden, all those rains & flooding meant my clay patch took forever to dry out. Some homegrown is better than none & technically it is time to be planting the fall garden. We got several loads of wood chips when the power company was clearing the lines and I have been trying to get around the plants mulched. The tomatoes that got done are still moist from rain two weeks ago so it is helping. I told the kids the mulch goes on the plants first cause we can walk the paths into pavement. We go out to the garden at 6:00 pm as we are all on dh's afternoon shift hours. It cools down pretty nice but once night falls its quitting time even if I want to keep going.

Hope you get your rain - long and steady for about two days would be nice.

We have mulch, lots of mulch. But that doesn't stop the leaves from burning and turning black and brittle.

It doesn't cool down much at night. 100F at 10pm isn't cool, but 95 at 3am is :D

glad someone enjoyed my colloquialisms. :D

Well at least frog strangler is better than t***-floater !

Could anyone explain why a 1/2 inch rain once is better than the two inch of well water I apply every other day. Of course we haven't had that 1/2inch since sometime last fall so maybe even that would not help.. Heck of a way to garden when you hope the weeds will help to hold some of the moisture long enough for the plants to get some of it. Deep dry sand just does not hold water. Dug a hole about the size of a five gallon bucket, took almost ten minutes to fill with the hose, emptied in less then three. I have tree rats, regular rats, skunks, possums, coons, and who knows what else eating my garden in addition to the grass hoppers, lizzards, horn worms, and several unknown sets of tracks. Guess I could declare this a "community" garden.

Bob, I brought that up to Husband the other day. I was ticked about watering and watering and things still drying up! gggrrr.. .

Pee around your garden, it should help keep some of the mammals away.

Oh man on those night time temperatures! At least we still down at least 20 degrees. We finally turned on the air but because my oldest son is stationed at Minot, he came in for a funeral and his two baby boys could not take this heat. They left about 70s weather but saw on the news this heat wave is over the entire US - even Minot. Don't think I've ever seen that.

I got tired of trying to water with a soaker hose and the well didn't seem to like it either. We drilled the tiniest hole we could in some extra buckets and give each plant a gallon or so. The hole seems a tiny bit too big but it seems to work so far. At least if it doesn't we didn't water too many weeds either.

South GA weather in Kansas! Whoda thunk it? The weather patterns are strange this year. We had July weather (100+ and dry) in May and are now having May weather (mid 90's and rain) in July. Hope you get some relief soon!
