After months of pretending to review public feedback on the issue of GE alfalfa, the USDA has announced a surprise lifting of all restrictions on the genetically engineered crop, effectively allowing anyone to plant GE alfalfa anywhere, without any restriction. This is the USDA's surrender to Monsanto, and it signifies the beginning of a new era of widespread genetic pollution of North America's crops and ranch animals (which eat those crops).

I am going to have to have a serious talk with our hay farmer. Those that buy organic, you beef products are about to sky rocket in price. We will have to pay extra to insure no GMO is in our cattle feed.

It almost seems hopeless, doesn't it? We have friends who are certified Organic on their hay and grain crops, well I should say that is until 3 yrs ago when a neighbor, just across the way from their property( plenty close enough for contamination) planted seed GMO alfalfa. Under the guideline criteria from Monsanto, they were supposed to by law notify all neighbors before planting. Well, guess what they didn't notify anyone and now the neighbors are sueing them and I can't say I blame them. Our friends lost all of his alfalfa crops( due to cross pollination and now has to deal with this contamination for years to come.
That is just wrong!

Wow. It's ironic how the government is pushing "green" technology and then allowing GMO seeds to be planted. I hope this fight isn't over.
As for human genes in food - kinda gives a whole new meaning to the term "couch potato" doesn't it?
