To my KS and OK readers

It was brought to my attention that some might confuse the Whole Foods Market Story with a local store.

Whole Foods Association located in OK and Ks is not affiliated to Whole Foods Market (that I am aware of) However they do sell Organic Valley Products.

Whole Foods Market does have stores in Ks and Ok.

USDA will allow widespread planting of GMO Alfalfa

WASHINGTON - The Agriculture Department is allowing widespread planting of genetically modified alfalfa, attempting to bring to a close a lengthy legal and regulatory process in which organic producers attempted to curtail the use of the modified crop.

The decision announced Thursday is a blow to the organic foods industry, which complains that modified seeds can contaminate their organic crops through pollination, bringing genetically modified foods into their fields

After months of pretending to review public feedback on the issue of GE alfalfa, the USDA has announced a surprise lifting of all restrictions on the genetically engineered crop, effectively allowing anyone to plant GE alfalfa anywhere, without any restriction. This is the USDA's surrender to Monsanto, and it signifies the beginning of a new era of widespread genetic pollution of North America's crops and ranch animals (which eat those crops).

Even though the USDA recently admitted in itsFinal Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS)that GE alfalfa may pose a risk to both organic farmers and conventional farmers (http://www.centerforfoodsafety.org/...), the agency suddenly and without scientific justification decided to remove all restriction sand allow Monsanto to regulate itself!

I am going to have to have a serious talk with our hay farmer. Those that buy organic, you beef products are about to sky rocket in price. We will have to pay extra to insure no GMO is in our cattle feed.

Just gleaned this from Never Done Farm

The first GM food crop containing human genes is set to be approved for commercial production.

The laboratory-created rice produces some of the human proteins found in breast milk and saliva.

Its U.S. developers say they could be used to treat children with diarrhoea, a major killer in the Third World.

"Whole Foods Market permanently surrenders to Monsanto"

For those googling. . .No, Whole Foods is not owned by Monsanto

WFM and most of the largest organic companies have deliberately separated themselves from anti-GMO efforts and cut off all funding to campaigns working to label or ban GMOs. The so-called GMO-Free Project, funded by Whole Foods and giant wholesaler United Natural Foods (UNFI) is basically a greenwashing effort to show that certified organic foods are basically free from GMOs (we already know this since GMOs are banned in organic production), while failing to focus on so-called "natural" foods, which constitute most of WFM and UNFI's sales and are routinely contaminated with GMOs.

From their "business as usual" perspective, successful lawsuits against GMOs filed by public interest groups such as the Center for Food Safety; or noisy attacks on Monsanto by groups like the Organic Consumers Association, create bad publicity, rattle their big customers such as Wal-Mart, Target, Kroger, Costco, Supervalu, Publix and Safeway; and remind consumers that organic crops and foods such as corn, soybeans, and canola are slowly but surely becoming contaminated by Monsanto's GMOs. . . . . . .

Approximately 2/3 of the products sold by Whole Foods Market and their main distributor, United Natural Foods (UNFI) are not certified organic, but rather are conventional (chemical-intensive and GMO-tainted) foods and products disguised as "natural.

A little of that

Welcome Kansas City Star readers!

Victoria Sizemore Long, a writer for the Star, wrote up a quick little paragraph about my blog yesterday. We have had a few visitors stop by.

I want to update you on how my father is doing. He is still in the VA, and is waiting for a bed to open up in Hospice. It doesn't look as though my father will be coming back to the homestead. I was looking forward to showing him everything I have learned, his father's family own a huge cattle ranch back in the day. It a matter of talking now, rather than showing him, and it's hard for me. I will try and not allow this to effect the homestead, but who am I kidding. The thing is that I will not be throwing it all in, though I do show up to rant about a lousy day, I am determined to stay this path.

I do not care for asparagus. I do not grow asparagus, but that my friends will not stop me from asking the neighbor how it's done. He grows them every year. But that is up to you, do you want me to give the man next door the third degree on how his garden grows, and then relay it back to you?

Looks like peppers and eggplant are next on the topic list. There is a large world of veggies out there {as well as in my garden} I will go through the things I have placed, but if you want to know something sooner, please let me know.
