I could always complain

But what's the point?

Last summer I spent my time here woe is meing over the drought. This year is the same. The garden is done. Even with all the watering, the heat stunted growth and tomatoes will not fruit at these temps. My fruits dried up, my grass is dead. Luckily hay prices have yet to go higher, but alas that is coming as well.

When it hits the century mark before noon, I haven't been spending time in the garden, instead I have holed up in my home and gotten creative with my bad self. I am in the process of fixing up our single wide using only things we already have. I will not be spending money, as hopeful we will have a new home sooner rather than later. But I have been waiting for 10 yrs for a new home. At this point I don't care if it a new mobile home, just something I will not have to be cold in.

Rag rugs are tedious. I am half done with my first one.

Rag rug

I think I made some of the stitches too tight, as it has started to roll a bit.

I have come up with a few other things to do with those rags. Will update on that soon.

I have a hen that decided to hatch out several eggs in Horse neighbor's barn. And a gimpy hen that has accepted her fate and is attempting to hatch out a very large clutch.

And the new generation of turkeys are just as mean.

Love the rug! I have all the fix'ns...just haven't put one together! Sorry you lost your garden...so many folks in the mid-west are suffering. We've been very lucky this year, but I'm sure our turn is coming, that seems the way it always is. Hang in there, and stay out of the heat!

Remind me what sort of turkeys you raise? I'm sure I could look back and find it, but on a cell phone it's a challenge. :) To what age do you keep them (I'm assuming they're for meat, or why else bother with onery birds?).

I've always heard that turkeys are a stubborn bunch!

I sure understand the weather treating you badly. Seems to be that way all over!

Lucky for us, we have had some good rain this year, but it's still nice and hot!

The rug looks cool! Could you possibly do a post sometime on how to make them? I have a ton of rags and old jeans just waiting for something.

Lynda, don't blame you, they take up a lot of time.

Rae, we raise bronze. Only animal here that isn't on the endangered list. We butcher at 8 months.

Jim, so glad you got rain this year! I know it's been hard on you guys.

Sundance, will do. And as soon as it is finished I will post pics.

Coley, I will. It's simple, but takes time. I have a jean project lines up as well.

It is not that I wouldn't enjoy meeting you both, truth is I sound way better than I look. I don't like people I know seeing the real me. I'm gray and wrinkled and missing parts. I hope you understand. the rat

I am so sorry, this weather is just terrible. My family is in MO and Arkansas is pretty much a dried up dust bowl. I pray for rain for all that are affected. I was so hoping for a better year for you~. remember to tent your tomatoes and anything still living, with a white sheet it may help. Peace Lisa

I too, would love to see how the rag rug is made. I've been itching to make one myself. I hate throwing old clothes away and husband just get ornery with me keeping so much stuff. If the pile gets too big, I eventually take it to Salvation Army or Goodwill. If I have a project in mind I can use that as an excuse to keep things longer. I once kept leftover broken & cut tile for 7 years. But, we did eventually use it!

Amazing how many so called experts are popping up all around the blogsphere telling everybody how all you got to do to your tomatoes and cucumbers during this hot weather is to "hand pollinate" them.

Sad about what happened to your garden. Hope you get your new home as you wish. And I'm familiar with the way you feel. Experienced it. But we just have to hope for the best.

Sorry to hear about your garden. One cant do anything about weather. My uncle has faced the same issue but it was a small home garden. We together fixed it. Rugs is a good idea. Post how to use it so we can apply it.
