I've Been Lucky

I have been lucky, that I have not lost a loved one while they were in active service.

I want to take this moment to thank those who have. Your sons and daughters, your husbands and wives, and your moms and dads mean the world to us here. We salute you, and your families.

And thank you to my uncle, a helicopter gunman for the Army in Vietnam. My father ( whom I miss dearly ) a first petit torpedo officer in the Navy. My brother, an Army Scout and tanker during Dessert Storm. And my neighbor, who has patrolled the streets of Aphganastan and Iraq for years in the Marines. To my friend that was a Navy Seal during Dessert Storm, and another friend that was an Army Ranger at the same time. And a special thanks to my grandfather whom I never got to meet and step grandfather whom would never talk about what he did during WWII, but shared his sorrow with me from the look in his dewy blue eyes. And my Father-in-law that served in the Army.

And thank you to my newest friends, here online, that have served, are active, and have sacrificed for us.

My life wouldn't be complete without your presence. You have each taught me something.

I memorialize my father this weekend. He has been gone several years. Dieing at the VA Hospice. Thank you to my readers and friends that helped me through that time of my life. I was and still am a horrible daddy's girl.

beautiful post Phelan. i don't know if you saw my friend Duke's post, but i linked to it on our blog. i would appreciate it if you went and left a comment of remembrance and thanks. from the bottom of my heart, i sincerely thank all of your family members who served. i had never seen hard combat during my career - but i have many friends who have. and when ordinary people remember - it means the world.

your friend,
kymber

I hope we never have another day of armed conflict, but if we do, I'd gladly serve in Dessert Storm ... just make sure to put extra whipped cream on mine.

Nicholas was a brave man, who was shot by a rpg. his son was 2. god bless all those who have lost their lives for the cause of the USA LisaP
