FUBAR

Yesterday I regressed to a spoiled 12 year old girl. I was throwing my arms around, jumping up and down, screaming I hate you! Never seen a grown woman behave like that? I'm sure if you look around, my little freak out is posted on video somewhere. Why not? Everyone seems to feel it is ok to invade other's privacy in this manner. Oops, that's a different rant for another day.

2 hours! It took two hours to milk 1 stupid cow. Yes, I am still a little ticked off at the whole thing. Dexter milking takes 40 minutes, but not how we seem to do things around here. For some reason all 5 cows got it in there head that the feed I put in the stanchion is far Superior to what I had put in the buckets. Since Lott has been here I have to grain everyone, or Lott will throw a fit and I have issues, oh like the new scare my husband has on his leg for "teasing" Lott. My husband was just trying to get him separated along with the older cows.

Yesterday I had Edie in the stanchion, Uma and Urth's Umbra decided that they wanted that feed, and pushed their way through. I got them back away, and blocked off the entry way. Lott decided I was being unfair, broke the barrier and argued with Edie over the stanchion feed. I had to walk all the way around the barn, because Lott was blocking the way. As I tried to get Lott to follow me with some more grain, Edie got out of the stanchion into the wrong side of the barn. Lott wouldn't budge! Things went on like this for a while. And in the end I was rewarded with only 2 quarts of milk.

My muscles hurt this morning, as do a few of my joints. But I did discover that throwing a huge hissy fit, is an easier way to get a cow to move than a swat on the rear.

I'm a bad person. You might wanna try a whip. I know, I know... love and kindness. But just like the kids, sometimes they need a little pop on the hinder to remind them that the rules you enforce are for their well-being, not yours. OK, maybe in this case it is your well-being, but still.

And nobody holler at how mean I am, ok. Thanks.

Meadowlark - I don't know cows, but I know kids, and "spare the rod, spoil the child" is right. You're not mean at all...

Phelan - sounds like a lot of work for 2 quarts - but IMHO, fresh milk is worth the effort! :)

Not all homesteading is cute, warm and cuddly.
I hope get them figured out soon- before you have to add ice and cold to the equation.

Meadowlark, I have used bill whips in the past (one of those odd talent things I have like eating fire) you don't actually hit anything with a whip. They are to scare and intemidate, not to harm. The fit throwing got the same reaction that a whip would have. I'm not hollering at you, no worries. I do pop them on the rear to get them moving, but with my hand.

Anita, hey would you be interested in renting the homestead across the road?

EJ, it was just one of those off days. Most the time my girls mind well.

You know, I'd really be sad to leave Greensburg, but it's an option... I will have to talk to Rick about coming out to look around, look into a few jobs...
Renting from the current owners? We do have lots of pets - that's a problem with renting sometimes...

I figured I would throw that option out there. The owners are thinking about holding onto it and just renting it out. They have a bunch of pets as well. She doesn't expect anyone to live out here with them. You can always talk to them. Let me know if you are interested and I will chat her up about it and set up a time for you guys to come out.
