This, my friends, is a praying mantis egg sack.
One sack can produce 100 to 200 of these wonderful predators. And we found around 20 of them.
We are moving them to our soon to be garden area, keeping them 2' off the ground and placing them where our cool weather veggies will be tall enough to hide the tiny babies. They hatch after several weeks of warm weather.
Finding these is a huge score for any gardener. Ordering them will cost you are $5 US. And we found a field full. They will be able to tend to the nasty vegetable eating insects that like to swarm around gardens. Giving us a better chance at a decent garden.

I like the title of this one, it's always the little things...
They are worth $5 ea? Is this a start of a small seasonal business?
I was at Comic-con a few years back & went to a board where comic artists talked about making a living while giving their comics away for free, on-line.
The one guy I recall quit is job at IBM when he realized he was making more money from his 'job' on his web site...while giving away his comic art.
It is the little things.
coolio!
I've never seen one before. It's pretty neat.
My brother had a praying mantis that lived in a bamboo cage. They are interesting creatures.
