I really don't talk about my brothers. I have three of them. FYI. But this post is all about Paul, my only older brother.
He is an inventor. In his previous life, he was a Scout for the US Army. And then he was a fire fighter for the US Forest Service. (Cool pics below) he has a great young family.
I am talking him up. Why you ask, well besides the obvious that I love my big bro, but he has an invention that is actually pretty darn cool. Those of you that live in high wild fire areas will like it as well.
But it needs some votes to help fund it and make it a reality. Since I have this forum here, I thought I would help him out a bit.
It's a bladder that explodes when fire approaches, spraying retardant all over your house or yard, dousing and/or preventing fire from destroying your property. And you don't even have to be there to set it off! And unlike those foams they have on the market where you spray your home and it only lasts up to six hours, this only goes off when needed. No worries if you have to evacuate your home days in advance. Below is from the voting site.
The Oasis Structure Protection Device
An adjustable thermal sensor detects heat from an approaching wildfire. The sensor trips, sending a signal to a relay device, which in turn, sends an electrical charge to each "Oasis Structure Protection Device".
When the charge reaches the device, an airbag is deployed. The airbag will put tremendous pressure on the fire retardant-filled bladder causing it to rupture and deploy the fire retardant on the structure. Multiple "Oasis Structure Protection Devices" would be needed to adequately cover structures.
More details on it and voting for it can be found on Quirky.
You do have to sign up to vote, I did and have yet to receive any junk mail from them.
Any questions for him, you can ask there or here and I will gladly pass it along.

Wow! This sounds like an excellent invention! How clever of your brother, no wonder you are proud of him!
Sounds great to me, too! I voted!
Thank you guys! I know your votes mean a lot to him.
We live in the middle of 10's of thousands of hectares of dead and dying pine trees. Warmer temps have caused an explosion of pinebeetles killing the forest. Many are worried about losing our homes in a forest fire situation. I voted for this!

Thanks Barb! Tell your neighbors to vote :D
Great invention...I voted as well.

Thank you for your votes! And your kind words both here and on Quirky!

Ugh, finally swum up from the depths of the Holidays... I voted for this as I'll be living in a wild-fire prone area someday and this looks like a good idea!
