ACK!

House across the street was sold and bought by. . . . Wait for it. . . One of the men that attempted to steal our sheep.

So now all four of these men we caught are completely surrounding us.

What is a gal to do? You know the answer, the legal one guys. Sheesh!

Now the Neophyte Homestead will be going through some major changes and as I don't mind making a complete fool of myself on a world stage, I will be chronically our new journey.

The Neophyte Homestead is now up for sale, by owner. Good neighbor is also leaving. However he is staying closer to here than we are, as his mother's property has seen one of these four men attempting to squat it. Oh yes, they squat property. They fenced in other property and put their horses on it, and as soon as the owner heard about it he had to get the sheriff involved. I figure I can sell the place to one of their relatives (yes, the men are all cousins.) bad dog neighbor, woman that threaten me about my starving my cows husband, man that owns the property they tried to steal my sheep from, and now across the street from me.

Yesterday, even before I know who was moving in, I had done a bit of research. Turns out that most States have a program through the USDA for beginning farmers. First step, read your States brochure to see if you qualify. Guess what, I do!

I called my local bank and a woman transferred me to what I thought was a loan officer. Nope, found out after I got an email from him, that I was speaking with the VP. We shall call him Steve.

Steve and I talked. I told him what I was interested in, that I didn't have property in mind yet as of was still in the research stages. And who earned points for that? Me!!

Steve and I talked for a bit. He was a little nervous about specialty breeds of livestock, but as I educated him more about them, and was able to prove to him that I had a bit of a clue to what I was talking about, he seemed happier about it. Suddenly he is hooking me up with a local USDA rep. Gary. Steve informed me that Gary was the man, and that they work closely together.

And Steve looks forward to working with me.

As our hunt and the beginner farmers program starts to play out, I will vomit the results all over this blog, the good the bad and the ugly. As I know that many of you wish to someday go through this process.

I have said in the past that I wish I hadn't so many adventures, but with this new one starting, I am stoked.

Good luck on your new adventure! Are you staying in the same state or moving away entirely?

Phelan said...

Not sure yet. We have little reason to stay. It comes down to State laws and land prices.

Good neighbours are priceless. Let's hope you get some next time around. It is amazing how many bullying idiots there are in this world.
Good luck!!

Wow hoo, hang in there and enjoy the ride. And meet neigbhbors before you buy.

Looks like maybe we should strap ourselves in, just in case the ride gets bumpy.

Good luck, my friend!

Thanks barb.

Ruth, all my problem neighbors moved in after us. But yes, I plan to check out the new hood.

Jim, I would suggest that, and be prepared for a water landing. ;)

There's some land for sale near us. Of course, we're all the way in Iowa but the neighbors are nice....

Good luck! How much acreage are you looking for?

I'll be waiting and watching to see how this goes!

Phelan said...

Thank you Stephen.

Roslyn, thank you. And we are hoping for 200 acres.

Donna, you know me, it will be interesting, frustrating, I will bleed or electrocuted. All in a days adventure!

Don't know if you are interested in coming south. If you are check out www.landsoftexas.com. There are lots of spreads around 200 acres here in Henderson county and we even have a couple of motorcycle shops around here. This web site lets you search by county or amount of acres or both. With your gardening ability you could raise enough to feed half the county down here.

Forgot to say that some times down here when someone tries to steal someone's livestock that some one just disappears. We have some pretty good sized hungry gators in some of the lakes and they will eat anything if you know what I mean.

Good luck to all of you! It sounds like a conspiracy against you. You are wise to leave. I'll be reading. (((hugs)))

Robert, thank you. Here we can legally hang them, and that's probably why four grown men ran like little kids when they saw Husband coming. Giggle. Thank you for the link.

Fancy, haha! It does. I bet they do have another cousin that wants to buy this place!

Thank you Fel.

I'm so excited for you! I wish I could offer advice or suggestions but I live in NY, where land is expensive, jobs are scarce and, as we're finding out lately, you can't even dig a hole in your yard, put up a shed on your property or own chickens without a permit.
At this point we're caring for elderly parents so we can't even leave yet. Good Luck, and I'll be following your journey!

It's too bad that you have to leave your home because of these people, but I wish you happiness on your new adventure!!! (HUG)

Sorry about the situation surrounding your current home, but I am looking forward to the process of beginning farmers program. Something I am VERY interested in.

Kath, ugh! You make a good argument not to live there. In January, husband's father will be moving in with us. New adventure there as well.

Thank you Donna.

Stephanie, I will definitely keep you in details.

So are you going to stay in Kansas Toto?....We still have some good cheap land down here in NW Florida

Phelan said...

Will have to pass on Florida. Lived in port orange for a time. Loved the view, loathed being treated like trainseint trash.

Mamma Bear said...

You were just in the wrong part of Florida...I don't even know where Port Orange is at. I'll have to look at the map. There's not enough money to pay me to go much further than north Florida. I like the quiet laid back towns.

Good luck wherever you and yours end up.

Near Daytona beach.
