It hurts

Do you remember last year when we were pushing bales up on trucks, and I thought I might have hurt something?

Husband thinks I herniated my diaphragm. I have been in pain for the past 2 days. I can't sleep as I can't get comfortable. Nothing seems to be helping it. And I have tried everything. It isn't so bad this morning. Feels like I was kicked the day before and just sore now. Husband says if the hernia is bad enough, I will need surgery for it. ~sigh~ Luckily it doesn't hurt all the time, just occasionally.

We had our first hard freeze last night. Growing season is now officially over. I will go out and pull the rest of my produce out of the garden, those items that improve with one frost and put the garden to bed.

We have been gathering all the animal manure around here and tilling it into the garden. It should be a wonderfully rich soil in the spring.

Be back Monday with the first of the Depression gifts! Thanks for more ideas. Please, if you have something, share it.

Bummer! Sucks to live the sort of lifestyle we do and have physical limitations (mine is emerging asthma). But I will never go back to the 9-5 lifestyle!

The diaphragm thing sounds like it sucks, sorry to hear. As far as simpleton-proof gift suggestions, however, I have a couple of ideas. This year I only had 2 requests when asking what people would want and those are very in-depth, sewing-related projects. Everyone else will be getting very simple, cheap and easy gifts.

I will be using remnant fabric to make feed corn-filled hot/cold pads and moth-repellent sachets filled with the cedar shavings you'd use for small animal bedding. I also know how to crochet and have a stash of acrylic yarn that was given to me a couple of years ago that I will use to make crocheted dish scrubbers that scrub a hundred times better than any cotton one.

Phe - I am sorry to hear this. I can't imagine all that you have to do and being in pain. Hopefully now that winter is here you can slow down a smidge and perhaps get the boys to help you. Good luck.

That sucks and hope you get better quickly! Few things are as awful as pain that you cannot shake, or that you recently acquired.

After some knee surgery a year ago, I have have kept the prescribed oxycontin as a backup for unforeseen events. I wrenched the knee in the first place while I was simply changing the oil in my truck. You never know when it'll strike!

I have been lurking here for quite a while, ever since my daughter-in-law got some ducks and was wondering how to butcher them. I googled "butcher ducks" and this blog came up. I read the duck post, and then had to read the rest of it. I feel I have somewhat gotten to know you, your family, your life, and your part of our country. So I feel that, if you had just gotten bored or wanted to take a break from your blog, you would have said so. And since you didn't, I am worried about you. Hope all is well. I'm sorry to hear you're in pain. Hopefully it goes away quickly!

I'm also writing to see if you would be interested in reviewing a new book we are publishing, called The Art of the Chicken Coop. It teaches readers how to build a home for their small flock.

If you are interested, please feel free to contact me, and I'll send you a copy.

I'm sorry to hear that you have injured your back. I shattered my ankle back in March and I can barely walk around the house. Life has become limited by pain and the lack of mobility. I hope you heal quickly!

.... hope that the long absence from cyberworld is due to wild and crazy honeymoon with your 'new' hubby as opposed to you being out of commission. Best wishes to you guys - and hope that you are staying warm!!!
