Depression Gift Giveaway!

Originally I was going to pass on this. Several different bloggers had received the same email and had asked if this company sold GMO's. The company's response was the same to each email "some are GMO's, Some are not." (and it wasn't just one blogger that got this exact response, it was a handful).

But then a letter came to one of the bloggers, OKPN;

I am the owner of Hometown Seeds. After getting a scathing email from Kat at selfsustainedliving.blogspot.com I have done some research and discovered that this misunderstanding over our seeds started with an email Chelsea, from our company, sent to you. Please allow me to explain.

First, our survival seeds are all non-hybrid and none are GMO. Secondly, the mistake is all my fault. After reading Kat’s blog and then following the link to your own, we were able to put the pieces together.

Chelsea is working in our little company part time. She is a student at a local university helping us build traffic to our website by reaching out to sites like yours. She is not an expert in gardening and relies on me to answer any technical questions. When you asked her if our seeds were Hybrid or GMO, I told her to respond that we sell some hybrid seeds but they are not in the survival seeds, and none of our seeds are GMO. This is obviously not how she responded and had no idea how badly the mistake would be received. I have seen what she emailed back, hence the misunderstanding and negative blog posts. It was there in black and white after all.

Read the entire letter here. . .

Poor Chelsea, she should get a good scolding then a raise for generating so much attention.

Sometimes the best gift one can get is something you win, So I am going to give away the Survival Seed pack from Hometown Seeds to one lucky reader.

Now I could just say, leave a comment. . . but when have I ever made it that easy? Ok I have. I would love to hear what the best handmade gift you have ever received was.( or just leave a comment, spoil sport) I will leave this open until Saturday. Then draw a name. The winner will be emailed, so that I can get a shipping address, said address will be shared with Hometown Seeds, and when you get your seeds, grow 'em or wrapped 'em.

My sister's homemade cranberry bread. OH! She would make two loaves and I would eat one all by myself. So, so good.

I am having a give-a-way at my blog too - I am so in the Christmas spirit. It isn't as cool as yours, but something we are pretty enthusiastic about and may make a good gift for someone to give. :)

Have a great day.

The best homemade gift I received was a Scrapbook. My 3 daughters made pages of each of my grandchildren (9) from birth up to that Christmas. I treasure it!

When I was about 8, I gave my grandmother a stack of papers full of implausible, impossible ideas for quilts. The next Christmas, she gave me a quilt based on one of my pictures. I loved it because it was a product of both our hands.

Oh, wow! I got an amazing handmade knife from a knife-maker when I was in my late teens. It has a buckhorn handle and was capped with brass on the butt end of that handle. It also came with a gorgeous handmade leather sheath. It's not the sort of thing that I would use every day, but it's beautiful and I treasure it for the craftsmanship and the memory of the person who gave it to me.

Please count me in for the drawing!

I don't want to be entered in the giveaway (sadly, everything I grow dies quickly) but I'd like to share my favorite homemade gift.

My good friend is a knitter and a few years ago she made me a beautiful purple knitted handbag for my birthday. It's purple wool on the outside and lined with purple satin on the inside. Gorgeous. It's my favorite handbag.

The best gift I received was 2 paper coffee filters back to back. My daughters hand print was traced out on one of the coffee filters and then they sewed around the outline of her hand and stuffed it. So now I will always have her hand print with her name and year from kindergarten. It goes on the tree every year.

The best hand-made gift? You're asking a lot, lady! The best one I've ever received as a little card from my friend Barbara's kids, then aged 3 and 5. Her older one had very carefully colored a picture of the mountain they lived on at the time and just as he said it was done his little sister walked up, painted her left hand red, and printed it smack dab in the middle of the card. It was so beautiful we framed it. The best gift I've ever made and given, though, was a huge woolen quilt made for my then boyfriend. Nine days after Christmas he proposed on my birthday... the quilt was what gave him the final nudge!

Thanks so much for hosting this giveaway!

My favorite hand made gift ever was a hand knitted sweater with Snoopy on the back that my Aunt Sue made me as a little girl. I still have it and hope to someday pass it on.

The best handmade gift ever...Hmm, I actually have a few. The first one would have to be the "grocery store" my grandpa made for me when I was about 3. It was U shaped, had shelves all around, painted in red and blue and had everything a store should have. I wanted to pass it on to my girls, but sadly my grandpa had decided to use it as firewood!! Another homemade gift was a scrapbook friends made for us when we had to move away. All of our friends and family made one page and every time I look at it, it makes me smile.

One year my friend made me beeswax candles in the honeycomb sheet style. I had never seen it before. I would burn them on particularly lonely nights and always felt better.

The best home made gift I ever got was from my mother-in-law, God Bless Her Soul, and it wasn't for me but for my daughter. She was in the NICU for 3 weeks. My mil made her a hat, no bigger that a soft ball, and booties. When daughter finally came home, she knitted her outfit. Daughter was too small for baby clothes for a month and grandma made everything for her.

The best homemade gift I've ever received was a dressed up rabbit on a basket that my grandmother made. That sounds so plain but she had a way with those little poseable animals in the craft section! She made it with tons of ruffles, lace, and pearls - it was truly a magnificent sight for all females young or old. Almost all my homemade gifts as a young person was from her, she was a Crafter with a capital C =)

As an adult I especially cherish all the gifts that my kids make me. Nothing can ever top then really =)

I would love to entered in your giveaway.

And I also wanted to thank you VERY much for your depression gift posts. I intend to make use of the playdoh as a gift for my youngest this year - she's going to love it!

The best homemade gift I ever got was a handmade book from a fried that makes books. For the cover she had taken my favorite tie dyed shirt which I had worn until it was very holey and really couldn't wear anymore. I passed it on to her in a random bag of fabric. She presented me with the book made out of that shirt. I use it to write all my self made recipes in it and will treasure it for years to come.

The best homemade git I ever got was from my now 7 yr old daughter. Her first year of preschool they all made butterflies out of their hand prints. We never thought she would make it to preschool let alone be able to help make me a Mother's day gift.

The best homemade gift I ever got was a collection of Christmas cookies my little sister gave me each year. I spent years working two or three jobs and just didn't have time to bake, so that was her generous gift to me.

She's gone now, but her love and her cookies are a fond memory I think of a lot, especially when it comes to the holidays she loved so much.

I just finished taking the Master Gardener Course in my home county in Northern Indiana and can hardly wait for Spring to try out all the new things I learned! Please enter me in the contest! Thank you.

The best homemade gift I ever received was a quilt made by my grandmother when I was in elementary school. It's still on my bed today. Craftsmanship is wonderful - I've gone through other blankets, bedspreads, quilts (all purchased) yet almost 30 years there is my grandmothers quilt, still beautiful!

the best homemade gift, would probably be a pillow my grandmother made me, my grandparents didn't have much in the way of money but my grandmother was very creative, she made my cousin and i a pillow from the scraps from my grandfathers upholstery business, she crocheted the details and behind some plastic vinyl on the front she included a penny from the year i was born, i'm very lucky to have had such creative grandmothers!

My grandfather carved a wonderful rattle for me as a child. Or perhaps I should say that he whittled it.

A solid piece of wood carved into a cage with three round(ish) balls inside.

I'm always amazed by the piece of art that it is. I keep it on my desk at home and still play with it often.

A great reminder of an amazing and gentle man.

The best handmade gifts I get are the ones my children make every year at school. I always look forward the the holidays to receive them and it's sad that they are starting to get to the ages where they quit doing that.
