Sigh

Any one else have this problem?

I can't get my cat, Pepper, to stop eating my raw cucumbers. I am not talking sliced ones, she will steal an entire cucumber out of the basket as soon as I walk into the house. I don't think she has discovered them in the garden yet.

That's just plain weird.

Is she eating them? Maybe they've got something she needs. Cats are smart that way. Or maybe she just needs more attention and she knows stealing a cucumber will get you to chase (play with) her.

You could try clicker training her until she does it on cue ("Pepper, get cuke!") and then never give her the cue. I used the clicker method combined with the paperback book method on a particularly misbehaving cat who stole off the dinner table. More info here: http://www.clickertraining.com/

Cucumbers? No. But I had a cat for 17 years who would claw his way up your leg for a piece of asparagus. It's part of the reason I haven't grown asparagus until this year. I wouldn't mind sharing a few, but I just knew he'd wipe out the plants in that first year when you're not supposed to pick any. We put him down last year, and put our asparagus in this year.

An old boyfriend of mine had a cat that felt the same way about cantaloupe.

we had cats that liked cukes. we left the cukes on the porch and came home to find little nibbles taken out of them.

our current indoor cat likes green beans. she snatches them when i'm not looking and bats them around. we find poor sad little beans all over the place,

I've got a dog that will steal ANYTHING out of the garden basket if he can reach it -- UGH! Good thing is he will eat it completely so I guess it doesn't go to waste =)

He also will go crazy if the chickens get more veggie scraps than him - tries to attack them through the fence, they just ignore him though LOL!

I never knew that cats would eat cukes at all! How weird is that?

Funny, but strange...!

Too funny! A friend of mine once had a cat that was crazy for cucumbers too.
One of my cats loves cantaloupe, a LOT - it's like crack to him.

One of my cats is nuts about fennel. If I've had my hands on fennel, she is all over me, licking like crazy!

That would be my dog, Otis. He will any veggie in the basket: beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, etc. Just pulls it out and chows down. Never mind that his bowl is full!

My cat Baxter, LOVES green olives. He is CRAZY for them. It is weird, but funny. After I feed him some, he rolls around just like most NORMAL cats do on catnip. I used to have a Siamese cat that would fight you for glazed donuts. Not any other kind of donuts, just glazed. Then when she would get it, she would growl the whole time she was eating it. It was so funny.

our don't eat cucumbers, but we had one with a weakness for brussels sprouts and mandarin oranges, another that eats almonds, and a third that likes kale.

Also had some neighbors who had to keep their dog inside when they harvested grapes because she'd eat them right out of the basket.
