7 years of Mistakes
Happy Halloween!
Today is one of my favorite days. As I type, there is a Lon Chaney movie on. So if I seem distracted, that's because of all the wonderful horror movies that are on. 7 years ago today, we got possession of our homestead. We saw this as a good thing, still do. It been a rough, but wonderful past 7 years. oh oh It's Frankenstein meets the Wolf man. Boris Karloff Rocks!
But no one beats out my boy Bela. That would be the distraction i was talking about.
Yesterday my youngest had a Halloween party at his preschool. brought ghost cookies. The room mother had no idea how to do the job. I didn't either the first time I did it, but I was there on time, had all the parents that has signed up called (she only called 3) and has the goodies set up before they got back from paradeing. She wasn't there, so I set up. She showed up once I was almost finished. ugh. I'm sign up yo be the room parent this year. I signed up to help the room parent. But it looks like I will be called to do the room mom thing again. Other issues with this mom. oops I turned this into a gritch session. Sorry, didn't mean to. I almost made a girl cry. I have custom vampire fangs. Something I got years ago, back in my goth days. They were expensive, so I have held onto them all these years. Every Halloween my boys bug me to wear them. The kids at school always get a kick out of them. So I wore them to my youngest kids party. With my teeth, I can eat, drink and smoke (I heard some of you that didn't know gasp. I smoke.) The only issue is say words with s's. They come out with a shh sound. Other than that, they aren't noticeable unless I smile, or open my mouth. I walked into the class room and grinned at the TA. Her eyes got huge then turned to two little girl's behind her. "Did you see youngest son's mommy smile?" She asked them. They shook their heads and she told them to ask me to smile. They asked, shyly, so I smiled. One girl's eyes got huge and she took a step back. The other girl looked terrified, she was on the brink of tears. Good thing her dad was there to stop them from flowing. My youngest however saw them and began to ask all his friends if they had seen them. If thought it was the coolest thing eveah! The other kids were a little weary of me at first. But everyone had a great time.
We will be heading off to town this evening for some hard core trick or treating. We go to my mother's house every yer. Speaking of my mother, she called last night. She had a heart attack. They are keeping her until today for observation. If she doesn't have another one, she will be released today. If you want, you can go say hi over at her blog. Many of you remember her from here last year when She guest blogged for awhile, and told all kinds of embarrassing things about me.

FUBAR
Yesterday I regressed to a spoiled 12 year old girl. I was throwing my arms around, jumping up and down, screaming I hate you! Never seen a grown woman behave like that? I'm sure if you look around, my little freak out is posted on video somewhere. Why not? Everyone seems to feel it is ok to invade other's privacy in this manner. Oops, that's a different rant for another day.
2 hours! It took two hours to milk 1 stupid cow. Yes, I am still a little ticked off at the whole thing. Dexter milking takes 40 minutes, but not how we seem to do things around here. For some reason all 5 cows got it in there head that the feed I put in the stanchion is far Superior to what I had put in the buckets. Since Lott has been here I have to grain everyone, or Lott will throw a fit and I have issues, oh like the new scare my husband has on his leg for "teasing" Lott. My husband was just trying to get him separated along with the older cows.
Yesterday I had Edie in the stanchion, Uma and Urth's Umbra decided that they wanted that feed, and pushed their way through. I got them back away, and blocked off the entry way. Lott decided I was being unfair, broke the barrier and argued with Edie over the stanchion feed. I had to walk all the way around the barn, because Lott was blocking the way. As I tried to get Lott to follow me with some more grain, Edie got out of the stanchion into the wrong side of the barn. Lott wouldn't budge! Things went on like this for a while. And in the end I was rewarded with only 2 quarts of milk.
My muscles hurt this morning, as do a few of my joints. But I did discover that throwing a huge hissy fit, is an easier way to get a cow to move than a swat on the rear.

Some News is Boring News
Not much to report. I am still processing those apples and pears. I have potatoes and peanuts as well as carrots to deal with.
We had our first hard frost last night. Still to dark out to tell you what kind of damage it has caused.
We have found ourselves in a mundane week. Finishing this and that, and not really starting anything new. We are prepping for trick or treating. I love Halloween! My youngest is going as a flying monkey. I have the wings that we made for his bat costume last year, just a few modifications and making a tail, and VIOLA! A flying monkey. The middle child wishes to be a goat herder this year. I know. . . awww. But wait, he will have a goat horn through is belly, lots of hanging guts and blood. hahaha! He is so my child. The oldest is going as an anime character. Please don't ask me to spell the guys name, it is in Japanese.
It has been awhile since I opened a Q&A here. Rules are simple, ask me anything. Need a recipe, want clarification on something, or just curious, go for it. I will answer the best I can.

Late Start
My alarm didn't go off this morning. ok, it did, but I had it on radio rather than alarm, and the volume was way down. So I had to take a child into town for school. My day is starting too late, already behind on chores.
In case you missed it, Saturday I wrote about a Gourmet Depression Staple, over on WNDN.
I talked to the good neighbor yesterday. His truck is broke, so I thought I would see if he needed anything from town, of course he did. We got to talking and he informed me that he didn't need the money he had used to pay our electric bill. He decided to trade what we owe him out with some mechanical work. He said it would cost him at least the $300, to take his truck in. We planned on paying him back next week, but this works out much better. At least helps us feel better about what our finances are right now Oh, and I had a little talk with the co-op. Wow, they sure do know how to put up a fight. At least the extra has been credited to my account and I don't owe this month.
The Phelan Box has been cleaned out. We are going to get some things that don't need to go outside, started in it now. Like sunberry bushes (started from seeds) and some herbs. Hopefully things will work out.
