On your mark, get set. . .

One thing that I have come to realize is that those that read my blog are an insightful, helpful bunch of people. You have the answers when I have none. And I appreciate that.

Now I said that this could be a wren of some sort, but to tell you the truth I know little about wild birds. Can you guys help Wil out and see if you can name this bird?

Thank you.

Friday

We got about 4 inches of snow yesterday. It's not suppose to get above freezing until Sunday. Looks like I will be baking for a few days.Hope everyone in the path of this storm fares well. It seems to be getting stronger as it moves.

I turn 29 today

They claim it was freezing rain, I say it hailed all day.

Interesting

Merry brought up an interesting article the other day. Putting Nutrients back into wheat. Looks as though back in the day when we first tried to alter our foods to make them more edible, erm, appealing, we screwed up and took some of the wrong things out. Now some scientist want to put them back. And the catch is, they don't want to do it by genetically modifying it, they want to cross pollinate, excuse me, have successfully cross pollinated wild wheat with the domestic kind. {yes, I do understand that this is a genetically altered food, it was done naturally} Yet they did discover this by using RNA interference. So should ethical dilemmas come into play?

Advanced technologies do have a wonderful place in our lives. These researchers found what was missing from our food by using it, and were able to fix our mistake by naturally correcting it. Some people could argue that forced cross pollenation is not natural, but if you would like to come out and look at the volunteers that will pop up in my garden, say like my corn, you will see that cross pollination does come naturally. It was forced by being planted too close together in a wind swept field.

I feel that using the technology to discover instead of modify is a wonderful use. I do not like the idea of unnatural genetic tampering. Monsanto’s sterile food scares me. How much testing will be done before it makes its way into the public. What types of side effects will result in eating genetically engineered sterile crops? The terminator seed will do nothing to enhance our lives, only Monsanto’s pocketbooks. Yet the forced pollination of wheat seems like a quality idea to me. Am I a hypocrite?

What say you?

It's cold

It seems that the low temperatures are here to stay. We had our first rainfall in a month last night, I saw the lightening and started up the oven. If our electricity goes out, we have no heat, so I light the oven and made cookies while I waited for the storm to pass, I made it to cracking the eggs, and the storm had moved on. Looks like we will have snow tomorrow.

Last night I decided to make a Christmas chain with my boys. My 5 year old wants to open the presents that are under our tree, I thought making the chain would be the best way to keep him at bay and help his counting. We bought 3 different colors of poster board as the local grocer did not have any construction paper. I have one of those school teacher paper cutters that a co-worker had thrown out. I snagged it since it was still in good condition. I made the first loop for my 2 year old. Oh what delight! He ran from the room with it to show his father, and stayed away to play with it. He was content. My 9 year old informed me that we had all the colors of the Mexican Flag, and got fed up making the chain after 5 loops. My 5 year old thought it was grand for about 10 hoops, then he informed me that his hands were asleep and that I should do it for him. He picked out the colors {white} and I made the loop, then he wanted to leave, but firmly reminded me that I was to use all white, nothing else. I, being the mature person that I am, stuck my tongue out at him and grabbed a green strip of paper. I was so wrong to do that. My 5 year old huffed at me and finished the chain himself in all white. Then he tattled on me to daddy.

Another long weekend

We did a little repair work, here and there. Then headed out to the in-laws.

What we see along the way.
A major television station, tiny and in the middle of a field

A very large church, in a very small town.

Political Correctness has yet to penetrate the deep dark rural areas of Kansas.

Meme,
I have been asked to tell of five untold truths about me by Abbagirl74 over on Wheel. I have been meaning to do this {she tagged me awhile back}

I wonder what exactly it means by untold truths. I gather it means things that I have not said here, and not correcting falsehoods or coming to grips with my personal truths that I have denied myself. I don't think meme's are that deep. Let's see what 5 things I can tell you about myself.

1. I am a perfectionist that is terrified of failure so do things half ass.
2. I keep my Christmas lights up all year {the clear icicle kind, they are great porch lights}
3. I am not a Christian, but my oldest son is.
4. I have a darker past then I like to admit.
5. I seem to always have a book in hand {I have even taken them out into the barn, to read during breaks in my chores}

Now for the tagging, {I was informed to tag 5 people}
