1937 Detroit Jewel

Looky what I picked up for $50

Only electricity is for the top light. And that can be converted to batteries. All the original pieces are intact, and it was in use up until 2 months ago. Very little porcelain damage, no rust. Two owners. Even had the illegal plums in the back. We have the legal kind for it now. All that's left is to convert it to LP and check for any small leaks.

I think it will look wonderful in my small cabin in the woods.

It's beautiful!!! Does it have more than one oven? As for the little bit of porcelain damage, I know they make enamel paint but does anyone make a porcelain paint or something similar?

I agree Sundance! :D

Rat, I don't think so. It has the oven, a broiler, and two drawers that look like they are to store pans in. We will be careful.

Macbew, they have porcelain repair kits. I need one for my claw foot tub as well. Someone tried to cover with latex paint on the front of the stove. That should come right off. I think it is two drawers, an oven and a broiler. I am having a hard time finding out much about it though. Not many out their.

Phelan,

Now I call that a great deal!!! It's a beauty, and will work great for your cabin.

Beautiful...who made it? Or did I miss something. I love old stoves.

Stephen, the Detroit-Michigan stove company. They were bought out in 1955.

Sandy, :)

Wow! What a find! Looks gorgeous and for a steal of a price! Love your blog!

That's awesome! What do you mean by LP conversion?

Phelan said...

Shawn, thank you.

Trisha, LP stands for propane. This is set up for natural gas which uses smaller orifices than propane. I have to fit it with larger ones for it to function properly.

I really wrote Trish, not Trisha. Autocorrect goes insane just as I hit publish. :) sorry.

That is a real find and a great price. Did you get it at auction or ad in paper? I would not worry a lot about a few cosmetic imperfections.

Love that stove! We're getting a woodburner for the winter and then a propane stove to use in the summer. Hope I can find a steal like that one though.
