Setbacks are to be expected

It's been a rough couple of days. I went from fighting tears as Husband sold his servi-car, to yelling at everyone to get out of my room to actually let me cry.

No blood was involved, this time.

Husband received a ticket while in ER. As he says, he was naked and upside down when the police officer had him sign it. Husband stupidly admitted to having a rum and coke the night of the wreck. Before blood was drawn, the officer wrote him a ticket. The rub is, Husband had that drink five hours prior to the accident. So we have been fretting over it. The officer pocketed Husband's DL that morning, and we hadn't seen it since.

Here is some rules for you. Here, if you get into an accident and freely admit that you had something to drink, even if you are under the legal limit you can still be charged with a DUI at the officers discretion. Your DL is automatically suspended. So since September Husband hasn't been driving. I learned to drive with my left foot last month, and it has been I or our Farmhand that has been driving Husband around.

It just so happens that Farmhand was driving when a man slammed into the back of the trailer, while the guys were out salvaging. As Husband talked to the Sheriff, his name was ran on S.P.I.D.E.R. Well looky looky, Husband's DL was never suspended. That was wonderful news!

Now comes the 10th. The day the ticket says Husband must be in court. It just so happens that it is the first actual cold day, -1F, we have had this season. We get the truck started and wait for it to warm up as Small hangs out with us waiting for the bus. We make it 5 miles from home when the engine starts making an awful noise, then stops. I frantically start making phone calls. It is so early in the morning and people are just now getting about. I called good neighbor and he was hustling our way so that Husband could be somewhat on time for court. As we wait in the freakin cold, fingers gone numb, my knee aching a small town cop shows up and starts accusing us of casing the homes in the area. When Husband explains, he snaps, don't you lie to me boy.

Sigh

Good neighbor shows, and I hobble my way into his truck to get warm. It's a mess now, another cop has shown up. However, while waiting for good neighbor, and Husband getting his name ran, again, I had Husband call the County Courthouse.

The ticket was never processed. The clerk had no record of it. She told him that if it gets processed, he would get a letter with a court date on it. We planned on fighting it anyway, but as it has been over 90 days, it will be easier to fight. Husband's blood alcohol level was well below the limit. If he hadn't of confessed, that ticket would have never been issued.

That was the good news.

The truck's engine froze. . . Broke.

Good thing it happened here and not during the move. Bad news, we had to purchase a refurbished engine. Husband and Farmhand have been working on it for the past two days. I am told that it is almost finished. Let's hope so.

I have learned this year that all good news must be accompanied by some horror. Ok, bad news. But I am stubborn and hardheaded, and we just keep pushing through it all. I remind myself that the grass isn't always greener, but it can be lusher.

Besides, this is the Neophyte Homestead, when have I ever done anything the easy way?

Oh, Phalen, I'm so glad you're leaving there. What on earth happened to Kansas? When I used to spend summers in Dwight with relatives, I remember everyone I met being absolutely wonderful (of course, to be fair, Dwight's a whistle-stop, and that was many moons ago.) Cop sounds like he needs to find another line of work for which he is better suited...far away from the general public.

Condolences on the truck engine. We went through that in July and it just purely sucks. Good news about DH's license, though.

Been raining like the dickens here (no snow yet this winter), so by the time you get out here, the grass should be lush AND green! :)

Once you get away from the Metro, it is the same. People are helpful and friendly. Too many city folk with city mentality have been moving to the country side, thinking things well be different but not actually changing themselves. We still love kansas, but she has broken up with us.

Rain? We need 9" to get out of drought. Looking forward to rain again.

This one quote from Mother Teresa has kept me going more than once, "I know God won't give me anything I can't handle. I just wish he didn't trust me so much." God must really trust you! And I have told God to back off more than once.

Hug everyone for me and two for husband. It sound like he needs some extras.

Sounds like a good time for a change. Hoping it all gets better. You have some good strength, I think.

If nothing else, this totally validates your decision to move. Ugh. I'm glad you are all okay but wow. You have the patience of a saint!

Oh geez Phelan, you're starting to have luck like me! Throw salt overyour shoulder and turn in a circle 3 times quick before it spreads!

Judy, I have always liked that quote. :) thank you.

Cool change, thank you, I think. ;)

Pamela, I think the break has taught me this much needed patience. But some days it all feels so overwhelming.

Mmpaints, Husband says bad luck is like vacation days, use em or lose em. So we are using them all up now. ;)

Wow, seems like when it rains, it pours. Sure hope your skies clear up soon. Glad you're moving to a place you are excited about. I keep you and your family in my thoughts. Keep your chin and keep working that knee. You'll be kicking butt soon enough.

Holy cow, how insulting to be accused and talked to like that! Well, if Kansas has broken up with you, it's a huge loss for it, not you. You all deserve better.
