Millions Against Monsanto Rally

This Saturday, March 26, 2011: Millions Against Monsanto Rally for the Right to Know About GMOs in Our Food!

demands are:
1. We have the right to know and want genetically modified foods labeled.
2. We want factory farmed animal and genetically modified animal products labeled.
3. We want independent, transparent, long-term studies done on the safety of GMO's for animals, plants and humans.
4. We want the organic industry protected from cross-contamination and law suits to organic farmers.

The FDA currently considers GM foods "substantially equivalent" and therefore doesn't require labeling.

Thanks to a trio of hard-working, all-volunteer Millions Against Monsanto organizers, Trish Wright, Erica Gray and April Reeves (along with local organizers), Rallies for the Right to Know are happening in more than 20 locations across the country this Saturday, March 26, 2011.

Don't see a Rally for the Right to Know in your area? Organize your own picket line or rally on Saturday, or pick a date that's good for you, even if it's just taking a clipboard and petition, a homemade sign and some fliers to your local grocery store. Here's what you need:

1. The Millions Against Monsanto petition (PDF)

2. GMO Consumer Warning Leaflet

3. Post your event to the Rally for the Right to Know Facebook page and/or send the info about your event to our Truth-In-Labeling Campaign organizers so we can post it to the Millions Against Monsanto page.

Good luck to the ralliers on DC - the Cherry Blossom festival and parade is this weekend - and they may be overwhelmed, DC is going to be packed, literally.

Too bad it is the same weekend as the CBF, otherwise I would consider going - the crowds are just insane.

I bet you don't see anything on the news about it.

Recently I wrote a blog entry offering a leftist critique of the ideology of “Green” environmentalism, animal rights activism, eco-friendliness, and lifestyle politics in general (veganism, “dumpster diving,” “buying organic,” etc.). I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on the matter and any responses you might have to its criticisms.

Ross, I must admit that I am confused as to way you wished for me to critique your post. To be honest, I am a capitalist pig. And I have mentioned it numerous times. If you are attempting to bait me into an argument, that will not happen. As I agree with you on many of your opinions. I am not "green", I do not wish to see agriculture defeated, or the clock turned back to a time when starvation was rampant. But also I do not see a need to put all my eggs in a single basket and rely on others for the things that I can do myself. And I do believe that we should be allowed to know what it is exactly that we are eating. And be able to make our own decisions from there.

I promote eating locally, because I am a capitalist.

I have said it many times. People that read my blog should not do so because they want to be green or read it for the romanticism of my lifestyle. I talk about the slaughter of animals in detail. I discuss the issues with raising your own food, the injuries, the downfalls, the sadness.

I repurpose and homestead because I am poor white trash. I also enjoy working in the soil and the companionship of my livestock as well as the bounty they bless me with.

I am not a leftist, nor am I an activist. I am a homesteader that holds my beliefs as my own. I do not lecture, I do not play holier than thou. I talk. What people do with their lives is their own.

Personally I do not see your post as a leftist view. And many others will not as well. What you have written has been said many times before, by many other people, just in different words, and often shorter. If you want a critique I would suggest shortening your post to keep people more interested. As the average reader only pays attention to about 1,000 words in a single article. Also, that not everyone homesteading is an eco green freak. Self reliance is my thing, just as listening to death metal while milking a cow is. Some individuals are just that. Some are indeed sheep. But we have the choice to be which ever we wish. And that is what I care most about in this lifestyle, my choices.

By commenting here, I am assuming that you wish to irritate me and others that live the way I do, to promote yourself and to get more readers. I don't blame you. It is the easiest way to get noticed.

I wish you all the luck.
