He is a hard worker, raised on a small farm, and is an incredible chicken wrangler. I do vouch for him. He says he will have a tent, so room isn't needed.

edited to add. Looks like we do have a few hostels. I did a little searching. But the prices are a bit much. You can get a motel room for the same prices.

What does your brother hope to accomplish with this walk? Is there a cause he is trying to draw attention to? I ask partly out of curiosity, but also because I think the more people know about him and 'his cause' or motivation, the more likely they will be to support him in whatever way they can.
How old is your brother and how long does he envision staying in one place if he was able to work? Does he fence or have any light construction skills? There is always fence work and building maintenance on rural properties. But it often entails a few days to a week of commitment. Would your brother be willing and able to fence for week and, if so, would he expect the going wage ($7-$10/hour) or would he be willing to barter for meals, a place to pitch his tent plus partial wages to take with him when moves on? All just things to think about. But it's my opinion that the more people know about him and what he's trying to do, the more likely they are to support his efforts.
It is just a walk to find himself. I did something similar when I was younger. As for how long. I don't know, he doesn't seem to know either. He would stay as long as his commitment is for. He has worked with us on fencing, butchering and he can drive a tractor and fork lifts. He is willing to barter work for food and maybe cash if able. Doesn't expect anything. He's 26 years old.

I don't know if he will make it close to Washington, DC [we are in a suburb in VA] and whether we will be in the same place if he makes it through, but once he gets settled into a path/route let me know because if we are on the way of course he can stay here.
I don't know what kind of work we have, but a house guest would be nice.

If He gets to east central Indiana he has a place to sleep and some meals here with me. I would enjoy talking to my nephew for a while, and I am sure my daughter would also like to see him. There are also a lot of family in the Evansville. In area and we have a reunion there the Sunday after the 4th of July.
If he comes through Eastern Iowa he could stop here for a rest. We'll be building a chicken coop early this summer.

offers free housing & board for volunteer workers on organic farms. only hiccup he might run into, most farms want someone to stay a minimum of 3 weeks, but there are exceptions too. just a thought

If he comes through Alabama near the Gulf Coast, we have a big yard with plenty of room for a tent, and we also have a travel trailer if he would like that for a change. Hubby always has gardening or other chores, and will start building a shed soon. I will email you.
I am in NJ and would gladly host. He should also check out the website couchsurfing.com as that is a great resource for homes to stay in all over the country. People there would really get behind something like this.
