A Depression Christmas

It seems a little early to be talking about Christmas, as it isn't even Thanksgiving yet. But when you make almost all your own gifts, you have to start early. So starting next week, I will start posting how-to's or how-not-to's depending on how things are going. I know that a lot more people this year are looking to do this themselves as well, and if I can help out, I will.

My S-I-L had her baby weds. 7 lbs 12 oz baby boy.

Congrats on the new baby. We'll be making our Christmas gifts too this year, so will be looking forward to any help/advice you can give.

A depression Christmas.... that sounds like what's going to happen at my house too. I can't wait to see what you're going to do!

I've decided it's the year of the wrist warmers for us. Teacher gifts/family gifts.

CO 40 stitches, join in the round.
k1, p1 rib for 4 rounds
k3, p1 every round for 5-6 inches from start, then go back and forth (no longer in the round, leaving an opening) still in the K3, P1 pattern (when you go back on the wrong side you're K1, P3 --knit the knits and purl the purls)
knit & purl in pattern back & forth for 12 rows, then go back to knitting tbe pattern in the round for 6 rows.
K1P1 for 4-6 rows and bind off.

(It's actually easier than it sounds). :) Good luck and hang in there.

I'm looking forward to your ideas as I'm doing much the same thing. Love reading your blog.

Starting on my hand made gifts already myself! Hard to convince the yuppie types that giving from the heart is the whole point!

I just don't have the energy this year. One something from the store for everybody. At least the list is a short one!

Hey Phelan! Haven't been on the site in awhile. Glad to see you are still up and running.

You are a real inspiration to me and just want to say I love your blog. Thanks for sharing the good, the bad, the funny, and the strange.

Love the name - Depression Christmas. And you are so right, now is the time to start; actually, 3 weeks ago would have been a good time for me! =) Love the jean tutorial. I cannot wait to see the others.

Ooooh! Your new nephew NEEDS a pair of those jeans, girl!

Just maybe not the one with the decapitated doll. Vampire bunny, perhaps? :)
