That Just Won't Do

I guess I haven't been much help this week. We are in in-between times, swing season. Not much I can do with the weather behaving this badly. The weather man can't make up his mind, so they are calling for 2-12" of snow here. Either way the wind will be blowing so hard, that they are calling for white outs here. Just wonderful.

I think I managed to slink down into a slight depression. I can't do much with this ankle, no worries Hermit Jim, I am taking it easy even if it does bother me so. (the not doing anything part). The kids have fresh bedding to keep warm, my children have their heaviest coats, gloves and hats, and my husband is furry headed so he should stay warm.

I need to get into the routine of spring soon. I was going to go to the farmstead today, but can't because of the storm. So many things to do, no time to do it.

I think I will make today a good baking day. I need to make some more bread, which should have been done first thing this morning. I think a cake is called for, you know to get over some of the gloominess. The boys will like that. Noodles, I am almost out of noodles, so that needs to be on the list as well as house work, ugh, why couldn't I have broken my ankle then I could get out of household chores. ~wink~

I hear you on a semi depression, mine is due to weather(grey and cold outside, after a week of into the 60's), economic worries and dealing with my folks and all their issues.

You NEED to take it easy and let your ankle heal. Are you open to herbal or homeopathic treatments? If so you may want to try Arnica Montana for muscle and tissue healing and Ruta Grav. for sprains and tendonitis. A herb that is good for swelling is Plantain. Yarrow and Comfrey are good for bruising and healing. Simply soak the herbs in hot water( just enough to moisten), cool and place warm herb ons the area swollen and wrap. Cabbage leaves also have high drawing abilities( for edema) Hope you find relief and we've added you to our prayers

Baking is always good on no energy/ semi depression days. Just be sure to prop your ankle, ice for 20 minutes (take a hot as you can stand wet towel and place between your skin and the ice pack. The heat helps to pull the cold in). No more than 20 min though. The cold will hurt initially then numb. No more than 20 min though. From the personal training/pt days. =) *hugs*

Do y'all stay warm? I always think about you when the weather is going to be especially cold. I remember staying with my grandma in her mobile home when I was a little girl. In the wintertime after her furnace went out, we'd use a kerosene heater, plus the oven with the door open. She had put a heat lamp in a light fixture above the couch and we spent a lot of cold days bundled up on that couch sewing while we watched TV. :) And this was in MS where it rarely got to the teens!

I know your home will have been built to different zone specifications as far as insulation, and the roof having to hold up snow and all.

Granted, it is none of my business if you want to sleep out in the snow! But I have spent a few nights in the bitter cold & I always think about y'all... hoping you're warm & cozy.

*giggle* my mind really isn't working today. I read about you baking then read the comment from annette about propping it up and I pictured you standing at the kitchen table kneading dough in some flour and the foot sitting propped up right next to it on the table and you standing one legged. I'm leaving now before I get any more odd ideas...

Cyclic, presumably... Which don't help moment-to-moment, but WILL go away...

Freshly baked bread and a cake (preferably chocolate) are just what the doctor ordered to lift you out of the dumps. And a bad sprain can be just as painful and take just as long to heal as a break so you do have a good excuse to get out of anything you don't want to do. Take care of yourself, you want to be well when spring does finally come. -Sandy

A long winter and a sore ankle would be depressing, but both will soon be gone.
