I'm not lecturing, or giving you a how-to, today. Just don't feel like it. I am not in love with the world, and I don't actually hate it, just a little fed up with it.
Yesterday at my husband's work, our piece of work 1988 Phoenix was stolen. Our only running car of late. Who on Earth would want to steal that thing? I don't even want to drive it half the time. My husband's new boss called the police, and our car was returned to the parking lot around the same time as the cop showed up. No the people or person was not caught. More than likely it is the teenager that lives behind the shop, why else would you return the car. They stole my digital camera, and destroyed the glove box attempting to get into it.
Replacing my camera is not on our need list. Although it is high on my want list. So, no more photos until the need list is down and I can get something on my want list. Maybe for my birthday? naw.
I have a ton of tomatoes and apples to deal with today. Apple recipes are more then welcome.

What a downer. So sorry to hear your camera is gone. I can go round for round with just about anyone on those misanthropic moods.
Our apples aren't ripe yet. We have an old, late bearing tree. So I make a lot of apple butter - a welcome activity in cool weather. I don't know if you're up for apple butter in August. But here's a recipe for apple butter cake that I think is quite good:
Apple Butter Cake or Muffins
Ingredients:
2 1/4 cups plain flour
1 1/2 cup apple butter
1 cup sugar
2/3 cup shortening
1/3 cup milk
2 eggs
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup golden raisins
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350. Soak raisins in warm water for 10 minutes, then drain. Grease and flour two loaf pans, one a tube pan, or just grease two muffin tins. Into a large bowl, measure all ingredients except raisins and nuts.
With mixer at low speed, beat until well-mixed, constantly scraping bowl with spatula. Beat at high speed for 3 minutes, occasionally scraping bowl. Stir in raisins and nuts. Pour batter into pan. Bake for 40-45 minutes for loaf pans. (Adjust time up or down if using tube pan or muffin tins.) Check for doneness by inserting toothpick in center until toothpick comes out clean. Cool cake in pan or on wire rack.
-You can adjust the spices based on what spices have already been added to the apple butter. I use organic, non-hydrogenated palm oil shortening for this, but butter would probably work too. Freezes well
Here's one that uses up fresh fruit. It's Jewish and therefore made with oil to avoid kosher conflicts with the rest of the meal. It's excellent! I think you can sneak in more apples than called for too, especially on top of the cake.
Jewish Apple Cake
3 apples, peeled and sliced thin
5 T sugar
2 t cinnamon
3 cups flour
3 t baking powder
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 cup oil
2 1/2 t vanilla
1/4 cup orange juice
Combine the sliced apples, the 5 tablespoons of sugar, cinnamon and 1 tablespoon of the flour. Mix the flour and baking powder together. In a large mixing bowl combine the sugar, eggs and oil. With a hand held electric mixer, beat in the flour mixture, the vanilla and orange juice until well mixed. Pour half of the cake batter into a buttered and floured tube pan and roughly smooth the surface. Arrange half of the apple slices over the batter in a neat, thin layer. Cover the apple slices with the remaining batter and again roughly smooth the top. Arrange the remaining apple slices over the top of the cake. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for one hour and ten minutes, or until a tester comes out clean.
I am so sad to hear about your camera. Schtuff like that makes me sick to my stomach. =(
My apple tree died several years ago and I have not had the heart to cut the skeleton down. Ronnie did that for me last nite. *sighs*
Enjoy the apples. I have fond memories of making apple butter. Will ask my mom for the recipe and forward.
Oh no!
I'd be lost without my camera... I'm so sorry to hear about yours!
Well buggers! I'm so sorry.
Bummer! I hate it when stuff like that happens. I had a phone stolen our of our car not long ago.
At least you got the car back. It being you only running car it is a blessing to have it returned.
Understandably it doesn't lessen the desire to find the person responsible and throttle them.
Hope you get feeling better.
It is a bummer. I would not exactly love the world either. I hope you find a camera replacement soon.
hugs
Girl, I think you've been having one of those years! :( It's gotta get better soon right? xoxo

Kathie, thanks.
wooly, yep I really want to punch a parent right now. But I'll get over it.
Gina, me too.
Farm mom, I know. I am trying not to think about all of that.
Scott, I know I want to! I know that if something happens like this again, there will be several angry bikers knocking on his door.
Sorry to hear that your car got stolen, returned and your camera is now missing.
