Now back to your regularly scheduled Post;
Today I have been posting for 1 year. It has been and interesting year to say the least. I have made many mistakes, and learned new skills. And you have told me how to fix my mistakes, gave me helpful tricks of the trade, and told me when I was flat out wrong. You have also been wonderful companions, cheering me up when I was depressed, Giving pat on the backs even when I thought I had messed up. You have been my cheer leading squad when I want to give it all up and run away to the suburbs. I am grateful that all of you have decided to follow me along in this adventure. eeewww. . . now I am getting all mushy. But it is all true. I am so happy I am not sitting here talking to myself.
Over the past year, I have learned to do many old school things, as those of you that have been with me since the beginning have read. Many yucky things, painful things, sad things, as well as overwhelmingly happy things. It has been quiet the figurative roller coaster. But now I would like to hear from you. Even if it is to say hi. But what I would really love to hear is one thing you have learned this past year, weather it be a lesson in humility, or a new skill, I would love for you to share it with me.
Killi, I want to thank you for the book; One Hundred way for a Chicken to train its human. I was so surprised when it showed up!
And I did get the asparagus seeds. I must confess that I have forgotten who sent them, Monica? I thank you for them.

Congratulations on your year of blogging, I've enjoyed following along on your adventures!
Happy Blogoversary! I have enjoyed reading your blog these past few months, knowing others are learning/going through the same things just has a way of making it easier.
I guess if I had to pinpoint one thing I learned - I cannot grow organic veggies. I just don't have the time, the urge to use chimicals in time of crisis was overwhelming. So I changed my beds to native-style perennials and subscribed to a CSA. I have been very pleased with it so far.
Many happy returns!
Hmm, if I go low-tech, I guess I'd choose learning the basics of how to sail.
Trying to patch a drywall ceiling was, well, more of a lesson in humility :-)
Happy Blogoversary! I think the main thing I've learned in the last year is to never "make up my mind about somebody" based on just a few interactions. I'm constantly amazed how wrong I can be...best to just be patient with people and hold my tongue.
Happy Blogoversary, Phelan! I'm glad that I discovered your blog. Here's to many more posts!
I've been enjoying your blog... since our ranch is a 1/2 acre suburban "homestead," I've been especially envious of your adventures with livestock... oh, for a goat... or perhaps one of those small cows...
Anyway, what I've tried and loved recently is using a solar oven. I love having warm food waiting for me when I get home, not worrying about precise cooking times or feeling guilty about all the electricity with our regular stove... that's been my favorite little experiment.
Happy blogoversery!
I must get to reading so I can catch up on everything here ;)
Cheers!
Congratulations, Phelan, on your wonderful accomplishments). I am new among your supporters and plan to remain one. If there is one thing I have learned this year, it is how much we need the encouragement of others in this life. And with that goes encouraging others. Someone wrote that all a person needs to be happy = "Something to do, Something/Someone to love, Something to hope for." It sounds like you have all of the somethings. Don't worry about getting "mushy". A little mushiness now and again is refreshing. Keep up the fine writing and the fine life. You have been a great encourager. All things are possibly possible to us (even this aging not so Pioneer Woman).
Congrats to a year! I have only been reading for half that time, but have enjoyed your tips, and your adventures. We have tasted a wide variety of things this year. From stone masonary(building our well house vs. paying someone to do it) to raising chickens for the first time, to knowing that we needed to impact our children with more than this 'give me' society does. I thank you for your inspirations and please keep it coming.
Happy blogging Phelan:
Yep, it was me who sent the seeds. Glad you got them---now you just need to learn how to make hollandaise sauce :-) (not my fave---but maybe yours!)

Phelan, Congratulations on a year. I only began mine in the end Of February, so I'm a newbie to it. I just recently started to read yours, and really enjoy it so far. I admire the way you are trying to live, and wish you the best in the next year.

Hi,
Congratulations on your anniversary.
I've learned a bit about homesteading...and a lot about determination. And perseverance.
And plain ol' grit.
You keep writing, and I'll keep reading.
Best wishes.
Well done for completing a year. I came to your blog late & love it when you post. I love the way you share your experiences with us.
Glad you got the book ~ you came blame BCIE for disclosing your address & trusting me enough to release it. Annon snaffled my copy which arrived a couple of days ago & has been reading it to the better behaved chickens!
What I've learnt this year ~ be very wary of strange visitors & note all suspicious number-plates. A horrid thing to have to learn ~ & to know that there are people out there who steal from those with less than they have. But also that others often lumped in with the nasties can be wonderful people: Nackers ~ part of the Traveller community ~ take anything they want; the Lads on the Traveller Site fetched me water in the Summer, tried to help save the second foal & are helping me with the heavy work round here & want to be on 24 hour alert if I'm troubled again. The police just ignore me.
