I once ...Oh, wow...that's a hell of a thing...

I once woke to a hen house that'd been raided by a fox. It was worse...but not by much. I let Springer Moutain raise my chooks, now...no longer have the stomach for it (may again on day, just not now).

Meanwhile, folks who take exception to raising critters for meat (and all that goes with that raising) should remember that ALL food is something that died to feed 'em. No one cares about carrots 'cause they aren't cute. There's never an uproar over a bruised rutabega. Hypocrisy, I say!

Sorry 'bout your chicken...and thanks for the reminder to check the fencing! I assume that the broken wire got tangled up in her flesh, and when she thrashed around it got a bit tighten around her neck, then skinned her. The circle around her neck is near perfect.Phelanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08250080326099834661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28663723.post-27117509257424342312011-09-21T14:57:50.680-05:002011-09-21T14:57:50.680-05:00Why do most people always post negative comments a...Why do most people always post negative comments anonymously? If you have an opinion be a big enough person to put your name behind it. I thought you were very clear in your intentions and I never thought for a second that you thought this tragic accident was cute in anyway. The picture is gruesome but after seeing it I will be VERY vigilant in keeping a chicken's fence free from any tiny holes or tears. I never would have thought a chicken could hurt itself like that on something so innocuous as a very small hole in a fence.Jenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17664824920459341153noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28663723.post-66803317049846483612011-09-21T13:01:36.115-05:002011-09-21T13:01:36.115-05:00Luckily MM, it doesn't happen real often.Luckily MM, it doesn't happen real often.Phelanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08250080326099834661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28663723.post-18931660622577192332011-09-21T12:59:51.875-05:002011-09-21T12:59:51.875-05:00Dang Phelan! Yes, when you live on a farm with animals these sort of things are going to happen no matter how hard you try and make things safe and look for things they can get hurt on. Reminds me of something someone told me about goats one time, "They are born looking for a place to die". Luckily we have not lost many over the years but they can find really weird and un-thought of ways to get hurt! Yes that picture does make one cringe, but I really appreciate you sharing the story (and resulting picture) because it will help other people to prevent it happening in their chicken coops. Who would have thought one could do something like that on a bit of broken wire. I wouldn't have, but now I know!Jenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17664824920459341153noreply@blogger.com
