If it's reality TV, I wouldn't trust it. They want the drama, so they create situations to try to break people's spirits, because watching a marital/emotional/nervous breakdown is apparently good for ratings. The pay isn't great either, from what I've heard.
You folks would be perfect. I don't know if you have seen it, probably not, but there's a show on Discovery Channel about people who live in the desert. One couple lives way out there with their child and the man's father. They don't let anything deter them. They remind me of your family.
