My mom has this set up at her place on our remote farm. It has high latency (so no online FPS gaming and no Vonage), but otherwise is comparable to DSL for most other purposes.

Phelan, I think occasional video could be valuable, especially if you're doing how-to stuff. I don't want to make a decision that will cause issues with the ability to look in on this blog.

There is one video I would like to capture and place here for you. Night time on the farmstead. You have got to hear the Banshees.

As for the layoffs, my stepfather could relocate. They have transfered him before to keep him from being laid off. This time he will not be. The thing is, the farm is here, family is here and right now our family believes it is a good idea to be in a safe place, and the farm is just that for us. The farm will be completely paid off shortly, and there is money to make there. This is a decision that wasn't taken lightly, and all feel it is the best one we have. Thank you for you idea however. I don't know why your community isn't seeing the layoffs we are. But count your blessings. I think it is about 70% of our workforce is tangled up with the aircraft industry here. It is our bread and butter. We will know soon if my stepfather is one of the many to be laid off.Phelanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08250080326099834661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28663723.post-30632573690443947792009-02-03T05:31:00.000-06:002009-02-03T05:31:00.000-06:00Hey! Personally, I love your blog as is. I prefer a few photo's with really good (lengthy) explanations. It would be a bummer for me to wait for you to upload, then wait for my aging not-so-broadband to download, then have to watch a vid with the sound all distorted, or the camera all shaky.
:) kmaree
P.S. Australian interest rates got slashed today, but that doesnt help those of us who panicked and fixed the home loan (or business loan) rate last year :( We could be in for more people losing houses and companies going under here too. sigh.Kella Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17946233729341814984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28663723.post-25765545829155954692009-02-03T01:28:00.000-06:002009-02-03T01:28:00.000-06:00mix em up!!! I find it strange that the airplane plants up that way are laying people off. My husband works for a company called Custom Aircraft Cabinets in Little Rock. They aren't doing a lot of hireing but they are doing some. I know Falcon Jet has cut all the overtime they were getting for the projects they do for them. There is another company out of St. Louis for whom my husband builds their bulkheads. Right now Hes averaging around 60 hours a week.

Our Local Rayethon Company has been stealing employees from CAC. They have been on a huge hireing stint over the last couple of months.

CAC is going through some growing pains right now. They have cut off all raises until further notice, they are re-evaluating their bonus program and they are insisting that if you take your sick day you have a notice from a doctor saying you or your child was actually there. But, all of this is happening so that they can get a loan to expand the parts department so they aren't dependant on the companies they build for to send them parts.

It might be worth it to your Step-father to consider relocating. Expecially if he works for Rayethon can can get them to simply transfer him to a plant that needs help instead of laying him off.

Good Luck with all your plans and I hope that the layoffs aren't to bad out there.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06539194053019693719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28663723.post-77668820400909293392009-02-02T23:07:00.000-06:002009-02-02T23:07:00.000-06:00Please, please don't do video. I'm not sure why that is and everyone else's experience may be completely different. But to me, it's like video watching brings everything else to a halt. If you don't give it your undivided attention, then you have to start it over or rewind it, etc. I don't get that as much when I am reading. I'm sure exactly the opposite can be argued, this is just my experience. You DID ask! :)

Good luck with everything. I can't wait to see how it all comes together.
